Morning Star was a classic rock and roll band from South Western Wisconsin from about 1974 until 1977. The group was highly popular and very well known not only for it’s music but for it’s light show and pyrotechnics. The core of the group came from a previous band called EDGE. Four of the original members of the group had been life long friends and all served time in the military together just to make sure the group would remain intact.

Members of the group formed a talent agency called Edge Limited Productions that handled bookings for at least a dozen groups in Wisconsin for the period of time that the group was in existence.

Original members of the group were, John Drake (drums), Dean Olson (bass & vocals), Bill Miller (guitar & vocals), Roddy Dull (guitar & vocals) and Bob Young
(sound & lights). Bill left the group after a year or two to pursue a professional solo music career and filling in for him at different times were Dave Henry (key boards) and Doug Bachelor (guitar & vocals).

The group recorded two of their original songs that were to be released on 45 but never produced the record because of changes in the group. The group recorded the songs at OM studio in Boscobel, one of the area’s most prestigious studios at the time. You may down load both of the songs from this site for free and I hope you enjoy them.

The group disbanded after a fatal accident took the life of sound & light man Bob Young. At this time the group sold all of it’s assets and put the money in a scholarship fund in Bob’s name at his high school. This money helped many graduates achieve educations in music and the arts.

Today the four original members of the group are very close and doing the following:
(John Drake)- John is a business analyst working in Minnesota and enjoys traveling with his wife Lori. John has at least for now retired from playing music.

(Dean Olson)- Dean is an engineer and lives in West Salem, Wisconsin with his wife Sharon. Dean plays guitar and sings with a praise band at his church and still performs with a classic rock / country band called Hwy 16.
(Bill Miller)- Bill is a nationally renowned solo recording artist. He has recorded several albums with major labels, been featured on national television and has even won two Grammies for his music. You can watch Bill perform on You-tube and check his schedule online.
(Roddy Dull)- Roddy and his wife Lorinda own several businesses in Southwest Wisconsin, one of them being this website. Roddy is also part of a Christian group that plays throughout this part of the state and fills in as a guitar player/singer for a couple of area club bands.
